The Grand Union Hotel has gained a new lease on life following a skillful restoration supervised by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the U.S. Parks Department, and the Montana State Historic Preservation Office which has preserved the historical character of Montana's oldest operating hotel and one of its most famous landmarks. Upon opening in 1882, the Grand Union Hotel was reputed to be the finest hotel between Chicago and Seattle. Elegantly restored to its original splendor and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Grand Union Hotel is proud to continue its tradition of providing the grandest experience in comfort and hospitality to be found in Montana. Built on the wooded banks of the Missouri River, the century old Grand Union Hotel commands impressive views of the river where long ago Lewis and Clark traveled and broad bottom steamboats from St. Louis docked. As the uppermost navigable point on the Missouri, Fort Benton was the birthplace of Montana and the stepping off point for the fur and buffalo trade, the gold rushes of the Old West, and the settlement of the U.S. Northwest and Western Canada. The Grand Union today provides 26 luxurious guest rooms on two floors exquisitely restored. There is elevator access to the guest rooms and the Grand Union is ADA compliant. Each room has a luxurious private bath (some with jetted tubs), direct dial phone with voice mail, auto wake-up and dataport, remote control cable television and individually controlled heating and a/c. Many rooms have views of the Missouri River. The Union Grille is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday in the summer and Wednesday through Sunday in the fall, winter, and spring. Enjoy relaxing riverside dining in a historic western atmosphere enhanced by an excellent menu and professional courteous service. The Grand Union's Brewpub serves a selection of premium brews from many of Montana's finest microbreweries and an excellent wine selection. The Lewis and Clark room is the perfect setting for group meetings, private receptions or intimate group dining. Full conference facilities are available for business retreats and management meetings. The Hotel also has wireless internet access. The Grand Union is the ideal location for weddings, banquets, family reunions or any special occasion. The riverside setting and historic ambiance, professional staff, deluxe accommodations, excellent cuisine, personal service and attention to detail will make any occasion a grand experience.
